Standard Sport first reported in December that Virgil van Dijk is wanted at centre half, while last Friday confirmed that former Chelsea left-back Ryan Bertrand is being lined up for a potential return to Stamford Bridge.
But it is understood that Soares is also admired by Chelsea, who want to increase the size of their squad in order to challenge for the Champions League as well as the three domestic competitions next term.
Just as Bertrand is wanted to compete with Marcus Alonso for a starting role at left-wing-back, Soares is being viewed as a possible contender for Victor Moses' right-wing-back berth.
